Should I Go To Nursing School?

This Question From Top Nursing Schools 2011 | The Question Has 2 Answers

I’ve considered it on and off for years. There are A LOT of nurses in my family and all but one have their masters degree. My whole academic career I have done really well in science. I love science. I am fascinated by medical stuff. I have the grades/test scores to get into a nursing program without remedials. I don’t have any issues with bodily fluids and whatnot. I rarely get grossed out by anything ever. I dont have any problems with working strange hours or being on my feet all day- that actually sounds appealing.
My main concern is not being caring enough to be a nurse. I don’t feel like I express my caring side enough. Sometimes I come off a bit cold. I’m really not- everyone says i’m not once they get to know me. I just really like to be focused on what I’m doing.
I would go to a community college nursing program(I have a few top ranked ones in my area) Going to CC would allow me to become a nurse in 2 years- give or take- which is really appealing. Staying in college for four+ years seems absolutely mind numbing to me. I feel like CC would also help me get better grades because I wouldn’t have dorm/partying distractions.
Going to nursing school would allow me to stay home for college which has its appeals. I guess that would also take away the traditional college experience. But I’m not really excited for alot of aspects of the traditional college experience. I’m applying to 4yr schools that are sort of far away so this means more travelling expenses. Getting my BA/BS at one of the 4yrs I’m applying to would probably lead to a better paying job but… I would also have to spend way more in tuition.
Thank you.
