Nursing Programs In Canada Vs Nursing Programs In The Us?

This Question From Canadian Nursing Schools | 2 Answers

QUESTION:

Its very common for recent nursing grads (schooled in Canada) to go to the US for work, because they make a significant amount more… (even more than some of the US schooled nurses)
I was just wondering about the program differences. In Canada we have 3 nursing programs
psw (not really a nurse, more of a health care aide) a RPN[registered practical nurse] (also known as an LPN in the states, often a college program (better ones are paired up with university where you have classes at both campuses) then finally the RN (which is a Bachelor of Science in Nursing)
When it comes to Nursing in the US… it seems so very much different. I heard things like the LPN program which pretty much is a RPN (is only 1 year and is more of a health care aide) and an RN is 2 years then you go for your BScN?

Canadian schooling always tends to be a little bit better. Maybe not all Princeton or Harvard level schools but some are just up there. I’m not 100% sure but I’d say it would be easier and more beneficial just to get it done in the 4 years then graduate with a good paying job.

As a RN you need two years of prereq’s and another two years at a nursing school. IF you get your RN as a community college, you get an associats in RN, but if you go to a four year, you get a bachelors as an RN. Some people prefer at a C.C because its cheaper, but you do need to go back another year to school(clinicals) to get a bachelors in nursing. But if you go as a Bachelors directly(4yr univ.) then you recieve your bachelors.
