Hello, my name is roger Williams. Before I get into the significant events in my life I would like to tell you a bit of my background history. I was born in 1603 in London England. As I was growing up there was unnecessary fighting about our ways of worship. All through this confusing time I engaged myself by studying the bible and listening to people and what they had to say on this topic. I was influenced by others and before long joined a group called the puritans. shortly we were forced to leave London. We went straight to North America. We figured that we would not be tackled about our religion as we had been in London. At thirteen I had been working as an apprentice to Sir Edward coke. Since he was a lawyer my job was to take shorthand notes during his trials. I did this for five years. When I was eighteen I was sent to the charterhouse school by coke. There I studied Latin, Greek, religion, writing and philosophy. Then I moved on to Cambridge University and graduated in 1627 with honors. I stayed back to become a minister. I finally completed school when I was 26. I became minister at the house of Sir William Masham. There I had the accountability to lead the Sunday prayers, give lectures, and lead meetings. I also taught their children and read the bible to the family. At some point in 1629, I caught a fever. A nurse named Mary Bernard visited me as I recovered. Not to long after I fell in love. We were soon married on December, 15, 1629. for the duration of this time many puritan members were victimized, ill treated and put into jail. Many of us fled to Holland. Some fled to North America. While positioned chaplain to the masham family I met puritan merchant, john Winthrop and john cotton. Together these two men were setting up Massachusetts Bay colony. My wife and I later moved there but it did not work out to well. After realizing that I was unwelcome in more that many places, I created the colony of Rhode Island. There I had also allowed religious freedom. I tolerated every race culture and religion as the others had failed to do. In contrast to many other colonies, I had divided government and religion creating a more established living environment. My name is roger Williams and I created Rhode Island.
