Anyone Know About Veteran Dependents Benefits?

My dad was a Vietnam veteran and passed away May 2008. I was enrolled in a university at the time and finished my degree in December 2008. I talked to a counselor at the VA and he said that I could receive back pay for those months if I fill out form 22-5490. I filled the form out online and received an automated email saying that an office in Oklahoma (I’m in California) received and downloaded my claim and that I will be “contacted soon” by their office.
What I’m wondering is 1) if they will pay me back pay for the 8 months before I graduated, 2) how long will it take for them to process my claim and for me to receive the money, 3) if they will continue to pay me when I enroll into nursing school in January (I just turned 23 in June)
